I put together a monitoring solution for one user who needed to monitor when using the MIC2496.
Note: The MIC2496 does not provide monitoring, but the new V2 MIC2496 out soon will provide it.
This solution involved relatively inexpensive isolation transformers to split the mic signal prior to the preamp. These are passive devices requiring no external power. The part is Rapco ss100i. Cost is under $50 per box.
The blue and green cables are coming from the mics.
On the ss100i box are two sets of outputs. The left output connects to the MIC2496. This is a direct connection from input to output in the box. This allows the MIC2496 to provide phantom power to the mics.
The right output of each box connects to a mixer. Channels are panned hard left and hard right in the mixer.
The signal path to the MIC2496 is direct. The signal path to the mixer passes though a transformer in the ss100i box. This avoids overloading the mics and allows for independent trim control of the signal by the mixer without affecting the mics.
The mixer in the picture is a Soundcraft Spirit Folio Notepad. The idea here is to give the artist a headphone feed while he is performing.
I made up some short 3 ft XLR cables for this setup from available parts I had. The little square block behind the mixer is the AC power supply. The mixer could be powered by a DC source with a custom adapter from a battery pack. |
